Suitcase Ledges Redux: Imitation is Flattery!

Our goal at Flea Market Style is to inspire readers to reimagine and re-create.
Nothing pleases us more than to see your wonderful projects, inspired by the magazine and your sense of adventure!
(We're looking forward to a whole new batch once the new Fall/Winter edition hits the newsstands!)
It's also fun to see the FMS influence in the work of national retailers!

These beauties, lower right, are from the Park Lane Collection's fall catalog. They are just like the suitcase shelves Ki designed for the cover of the last Fall/Winter edition.
This isn't the first time Ki has seen her designs make it into the mass market!

A wall drying-rack-turned-card/photo-display she created for Country Home several years back journeyed into Pottery Barn's catalog, and the vintage birdcage desk organizer was reproduced by Ballard Designs.

Imitation will likely keep happening as Ki keeps coming up with new ideas. (As noted in the recent Wall Street Journal article about her, she needs to come up with about 60 new craft ideas every six months!)

A piece of cake for our idea-generating junking maven! And aren't we the lucky beneficiaries?!

Ki's a genius. I like her versions better, too... once you can buy it ready made, it takes the fun out of searching for your materials and figuring out how you're going to put them together. LOVE YOU FLEA MARKET MAG!!

I love suitcases. I have a stack of mismatched ones that I store magazines, etc in. <3

I think Ki's one of a kind "found creations" top the mass marketed pieces also. It is cool to see her ideas in catalogs however!

There's always a yay/nay component to being copied. Ki's idea is the original and best. It's flattering to have someone duplicate your concept.

However - that company is going to make $$$$ from an idea that she came up with and they rippedoff.

I vote for the originals. Always.

There will always be knock-offs when your ideas are so creative. I saw the suitcase shelf imitations all over the summer gift shows! As I said Ki, we just have to stay one step ahead of the pack!
