Behind the Scenes: Put a Bird On It!
Here's the latest in our continuing series of behind-the-scenes look at how the current issue of Flea Market Style went together...while the new issue is in progress! Remember this bird feeder from page 53, and its accompanying chalk-board birdie?!
Everyone tried a hand at drawing a fine feathered friend: Photographer Adam Albright...
...Art Director Stacey Willey...
Why is everyone laughing? Are you familiar with Portlandia, the cult classic show starring Saturday Night Live's Fred Armison and Carrie Brownstein?
A great episode spoofs how the design world is so taken with avian-themed decor. It's called "Put a Bird On It," and FMS has a great sense of self-deprecating humor!
Details for the curious: You'll notice that the bird that appeared was not any of the birds drawn here. Stacey ended up putting together the one featured with her Illustrator program, because the hand-drawn entries were all too large!
This was one feature we were happy to Tweet about!
The fall FMS issue is in production now, and we look forward to being able to bring you behind-the-scenes looks at that, soon!

TOO cute!! Love it! :) Have a lovely day! HUGS Holly
FMS is one of my very favorite zines. I get so much inspiration and ideas from that magazine I can't sleep at night. I'm an old restorer, redoer, re- whatever-er. Wish it came out monthly. I haunt the stores til it comes out.
It's funny.you are have a happy life
