Team Profile: Nancy Polacek!

Meet Nancy Polacek!
The talented seamstress and go-to project gal is the subject of our latest Flea Market Style team profile! I don't know where that picture was taken, but the three areas of her home that are defacto "sewing rooms" where she creates her fabulous pillows, purses, dog coats, belts and other items from vintage fabrics do not have a brick wall!

HOME BASE: Minneapolis

"FROM": Faribault, Minn.

FMS JOB: "Making 3D models out of Ki' s pencil sketches."

DAY JOB: "Lunch maker/poodle wrangler." Find her work at her Etsy shop.

DREAM JOB: "Frasier's! No question! Wouldn't it be fun to dispense advice without seeing the eye rolls?"

BEDSIDE READING: " 'Still Alice' by Lisa Genova. A horror story about early onset Alzheimer's. I had every symptom until a read the antidote: Nora Ephron's 'I Remember Nothing.' Whew!"

WHAT SHE'D SAVE...: "If the house were on fire and my family and pets showed their mettle by trampling me on their way to safety, I wouldn't save anything! I would love to have a real excuse to redecorate from the ground up."

CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT: "Starbuck's Sumatra . Sharp scissors. Cabernet Sauvignon to counter the effects of previous two."

ON HER iPOD: "Bob Dylan. Bruce Springsteen. Motown."

FAMILY: "My mom used to shoo 9 girls to bed and sew our cute, albeit identical, outfits assembly-line style before she went to bed. We always looked pretty well-dressed despite her tight budget in our 1960s line-ups (otherwise known as family photos). Now my kids are the creative influences in my life. My oldest daughter is a letter-press wizard at Printerette Press. My son is an architectural student whose mind is constantly whirring with cool design ideas. New college freshman daughter sends me cool crafting ideas she comes across ( then whips them up herself) and the youngest, 13, is a budding Julia Child who sends her confections off to College Freshman."

PETS: "Two yorkie-poodle mutts named Otis and Rusty. They're great city dogs. Protection? Not so much."

DAILY UNIFORM: "Hasn't changed much in 30 years. Levis, old sweater, T-shirt. Shoes optional."

SHE'LL NEVER BE FOUND: "Hmm, that's a hard one. Eating octopus! Ishda!"

GUILTY PLEASURE: "See three things I can't live without, above."

Knowing Nancy and seeing her creative mind at work is an unitigated pleasure, never a guilty one! Check back next week for the latest FMS team profile...and a behind-the-scenes story!

So glad to see this profile. I don't always get to know everyone on the team but it sure takes a village to get this magazine made. Glad to get to know you Nancy.

It's great to read about all the stuff I enjoy and knowing that the great minds are right in my back yard (literally because I remember shopping the weekends at Junk Market in Long Lake). Can't wait to see what the new mag holds - (no one can find a vintage suitcase anymore in the whole state!). I hope the new feature is rolling pins...... yeah rolling pins....I have a bunch and people would be pounding down my door to get at 'em!
