Behind the Scenes: Shooting Top 10 Collectibles
Did you spot the real dog, second from the right in the top row of the Spring/Summer Flea Market Style mag?!
That's Ollie, the much beloved pet of Al Linder (who also starred in the Top 10 Collectibles shoot. He's the gent with the game wheels!).
And believe it or not, he posed quite prettily for Dean Riggott, the patient and exacting shooter behind Dean Riggott Photography!
The 15-hour shoot of 11 collections (we shot one extra and then decided which was on the bubble) took place in a conference room at Canterbury Park in Minnesota, where Junk Bonanza vendors were setting up for the September show.
We juggled and rejiggered the canine models (plaster, papier mache, ceramic, chalkware and everything in between) in and around Ollie to get the perfect assemblage! Styling assistant Eydie Campbell plucked several pooches from generous vendors as they set up, so there were plenty from which to choose!
It's always fun and games until someone gets hurt. This German Shepherd (third shelf down, far right) yielded to gravitational pull and hurtled head-first onto the carpet, which wasn't soft enough to break his fall.
Then he was: dog gone...!
Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes looks at how the latest issue came together. And since we're already deep into the Fall/Winter edition, we'll soon have stories to share from there, as well!

Thanks for sharing the photo shoot. It was one of my faves in the magazine. Loved the 'real' poodle too!
It's funny to take these photos.
