Junk expert
Ki Nassauer has been attracted to vintage rubber stamps for as long as she can remember. She snatches them up on her regular junking trips to antique shops, flea markets, and garage sales. She is particularly drawn to the ones displaying quirky business names, and those with great emblems on the handles. Long past their intended purpose in life, Ki has reinvented these hard-working stamps and pressed them into service as great photo, business card, and ephemera holders. Featured in Flea Market Style, we are now offering up a close-up of the project and how you, too, can make these handy and charming photo holders!
Follow Ki's directions and reinvent your stamps:
1.Remove the rubber lettering at the bottom so your stamp will sit flat.
2. Drill 2 holes in the top of the handle 1/2" apart and 1/2" deep. (I used a 1/16 drill bit)
(Tip: Make an indentation with a nail before drilling to keep your drill bit in the correct spot.)
3. Wrap 18 gage wire around a fine point Sharpie one and a half times to achieve the perfect round.
4. Snip with a wire cutter leaving 2 tails approximately the same depth as your holes.
5. Add a tiny bit of glue to the end of the wire and insert into the holes.
Your wire should look like this:
6. Add a photo, place card, business card, or small sign.

A great way to repurpose a once-used stamp!

I remember seeing this on Ki's blog awhile back and fell in love with the look. I have since found several of the rubber stamps and have made some of the photo displays for my vintage family photos. It is a wonderful look that always brings compliments.
Loved the magazine. It's one that I pick up again and again.

I got my magazine!! Love it, especially the funnels! great ideas and I can not wait for the flea market/garage sale season to start here in ND.
What a cute idea!
When my husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I told him design books. I already have my issue of the magazine. He knows my style. I received three books and I was so excited today to see one of them is "Junk Beautiful" and recognized Ki right away! :)

Just picked up my first copy and I'm positively giddy. What a treasure cover to cover. I'll be heading back to the store to grab copies for my Mom and sisters. Your fresh and inspiring magazine is a great beacon of hope for creative souls! Thank you, thank you!! When is the next one hitting the stands?
You can never go wrong with beautiful re-purposing! I loved your feature on this in the magazine.
I just love, love, love, the way you think. If that are photos of your store, it is beautiful. It must be heaven to shop in your place with the attitude you have for your shop and your customers.

This is very nice! Love it as the photo holder...better go find some stamps now.
What an awesome idea! Thanks for the great tips!
I loved this idea. BTW, your magazine was amazing, jam packed full of great ideas and inspiration! Keep up the good work! And thank you so much for all your hard work and endless hours that you put in to make it so fabulous for all of us.
I love this! Thank you. BTW, I awarded you a Beautiful Blog Award. Happy Monday!
This idea is so nifty. Reminds me of the old train ticket rubber stamps (bearing the names of various cities along the train's route) that I picked up at an antiques shop on Main St. in Meredith, N.H. (Anyone visiting the area should stop in Meredith and walk up behind the lovely Mill Falls Marketplace of shops and cafes...there are some treasures in the original antiques and junk shops up on Main St.!) Anyway, I was not sure what to do with those rubber stamps, I just knew I loved them. Now I can try this! Thanks. Love the mag.
Brilliant! I do love repurposing. Do you sell these unique little card holders? Terrific blog, i've just discovered it and am now a follower! S x
I found a lot of old rubber stamps at the Washington (LA) Antique Fair today. I pulled out the magazine to read the how to and was a bit surprised to see that you removed the actual stamp. It seems like you loose all the character if you do that. I agree, it is an issue with the smaller ones but the larger ones I think would work with the stamp intact. I might give it a shot. I also collect old photos and think this would be another conversation piece for my place.
Love the magazine. It's a bit pricey and I wish it came out more often but when it does.... IT'S GREAT !!!!!
Hi!
Yesterday I posted an entry on my blog with a link to this tutorial.
I'd appreciate your letting me know if that's OK.
