SNEAK PEEK: FOREIGN INTRIGUE...

I have known Jocie Sineaur for about ten years. Jocie owns an amazing shop in Peterborough, New Hampshire called Red Chair, which is filled with her distinctive collecting and decorating style: sophisticated but approachable, studied and well edited, distinctive and decidedly European. Jocie and I became fast friends when we met and I have purchased many, many wonderful things from her shop over the years. When it came time to shoot Flea Market Style, she and her home were a natural feature for the magazine and I was so grateful that she agreed.

Jocie's feature is a whole house tour and, as you will see in the magazine, it is a home filled with treasures, great ideas to steal and a tranquil atmosphere that is really what every homeowner desires when decorating their space. Jenny and I shot the entire home in one day (all while my dog Oscar was in the animal hospital going through crucial tests). It was an energy packed day of shooting and worrying, and I am grateful to have had such a lovely escape on a day filled with nail biting drama.

These fabulous shots of Jocie's house, though out-takes, are an idea of what you will find in her whole house feature story:

Its all in the details... a bedside table is adorned with family photos, a spectacular alabaster lamp and a plaster mirror and frame that is like a sculptural work of art:

We didn't have space to feature her kitchen this time... but here is a glimpse of all its finally appointed accoutrements:

Ironstone in this house is shapely and pristine:

A cornerstone of Jocie's design... vintage buttons, ribbons and other special fashion notions:

Organization in the bath never looked so good:

The final story, written by Linda MacDonald, is lovely... really a tribute to Jocie - who she is, and how she lives her life - and I can't wait for you to see it all in its entirety!

What an interesting maison. It is gorgeous, I cannot believe that she is a collector of french buttom cards. Ironically I have listed a set on my online shop this morning, along with a few other french vintage goodies.

A bientot,
Leeann

Oscar, my Yorkshire terrier had surgery to fuse 4 discs in his neck in October. He has had a very nice recuperation and is 90% back to his old self... very happy, very mobile, very much himself and I am grateful and thankful for all the support... THANK YOU! MATTHEW MEAD

Jocie's home looks fabulous - can't wait to see it in the magazine. p.s. whole house tours seem to be missing in magazines these days (it's nice to see someone's vision carried all the way through an entire house)

Happy for you and Oscar both.

so good to hear that your dog is better, hard to watch a helpless animal when they are ill. I am counting the days till your magazine comes out.

I can't wait to see the magazine! Her kitchen is so lovely, even if it's just a small peek into it. I hope you can feature the kitchen in another issue.

Thanks for such a great magazine!

I have the magazine photos cut out and saved in my idea folder of Jocie's home and shop from years ago when it was featured in Country Home magazine (I think that was the one). I am anxious to see how her style has evolved. It will be nice to see her place again. It is one of my favorites. All the best, Lori

MATTHEW MEAD SAIS,

Lori, you won't be disappointed, I promise you... the house is different but is an evoloution of the original. I can't tell you how beautiful it is and you will love her "great room" addition. If you can ever make it to her shop, it is a treasure trove of the best of the best... Matthew

35 days...I am so excited to see it. This house is awesome. I so love her style. Edited to make each piece, each collection stand out. It's a quiet picture- I am not distracted by the noise of too many tchotkes....and the kitchen- I am loving that onion basket on the cupboard.

I remember Jocie from Country Home. Oh how I miss that magazine and the HGTV show by that name with Mary Emmerling. I do hope your new magazine fills that gap. Very excited for all of you.

I too kept the 2001 "Country Home" article of Jocie's home. It's actually sitting right here next to my desk filed away in my inspiration notebook! And when we bought our fixer upper of a farmhouse, it was Jocie's house that I thought of as inspiration. I hope to someday stop in at her store - a friend of mine says it's absolutely lovely! Can't wait for the new magazine! Trina

I have been to her shop several times. I took a wonderful picture of the turning leaves through her back window and later did an oil painting of it. (painting was displayed in a few shows)
I think that might be the window in her old location.

I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I entered Red Chair last Summer - I wanted to buy everything French and Belgian! I'll be back there this Summer with an empty suitcase this time!

Looking forward to the article and the entire magazine. Good Luck - we so need a great new decorating magazine. Country Home was fabulous and I miss it so much - I like Country Living but must admit my sub. to the UK Country Living is a favorite (perhaps because I'm from England and the articles are nostalgic!). The weight of the paper, the color and print quality also make it great - don't like skimpy paper! Also pick up Cote Sud now and then when they feature Provence homes - but my favorite French decor mag. is impossible to find here - Campagne Decoration.

Again, good luck - I'll be waiting outside Borders for the door to open on Feb. 18.
